Purpose and accuracy

The content here is educational and general. Identification notes describe common features, but coastal species, regional names and shoreline conditions vary, and finds can be ambiguous. Notes on this site are not a substitute for expert determination, and no guarantee is made that any description fits a specific find.

Acceptable use

You may read and reference the guides for personal and educational purposes. Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, misrepresent its content, or republish whole pages as your own work.

Collection and local rules

Rules on collecting shells, wood and natural material differ by location and may be restricted in parks and protected areas. You are responsible for knowing and following the rules that apply where you are. PlainBasketHouse does not authorise collection anywhere.

The original text and layout of this site belong to PlainBasketHouse. Photographs are sourced from contributors to Wikimedia Commons and remain under their respective licences; rights to those images stay with their creators.
